Types of personal insurance
Homeowners
Dwelling coverage – pays to repair or rebuild your home if damaged by a covered cause of loss. It is important to buy enough dwelling coverage to cover the cost to rebuild
Other structures coverage – pays for damages to detached structures like garages, sheds, fences and cottages on your property
Personal property coverage – reimburses you for the personal items in your home that may be damaged or destroyed by a covered cause of loss, which could include your furniture, clothes, sporting goods and electronics
Loss of use coverage – pays your additional housing and living expenses if you must move out of your home temporarily while it's being restored
Liability insurance – helps protect your assets and cover your defense costs in the event of a lawsuit because you or your family members are responsible for causing injuries or damage to other people or their property
Additional home coverages – there are other additional coverages available to help meet your insurance needs
TYPES OF PERSONAL INSURANCE
Automobile
Liability – most important coverage: property damage liability pays for the covered damage you've caused to the other car and provides you with legal defense if the other party files a lawsuit against you; bodily injury liability covers the costs associated with the covered injuries you may have caused to other people in that accident and also provides for a legal defense if you're sued
Collision – helps pay for damage to your vehicle if your car hits another car or object, is hit by another car, or your vehicle rolls over
Comprehensive – helps pay for damage to your vehicle that is not caused by a collision, damage from fire, vandalism, windstorm, hail, flood or impact with an animal
Medical Payments – helps pay for covered medical expenses for anyone injured while in your vehicle, regardless of who is at fault
Uninsured/underinsured motorist – helps pay for damages and medical costs resulting from an accident caused by someone who has no insurance or inadequate insurance coverage
